3rd Central German algae get-together in Köthen
The 3rd Central German Algae Meeting took place at Anhalt University on October 24th and 25th, 2024
29.10.2024
Algae as a raw material of the future
The focus of the algae round table was the great potential of algae: as a nutrient-rich food, as a source of pharmaceutical and cosmetic ingredients and as a sustainable raw material for industry, algae offer future-oriented solutions. In the specialist lectures and discussions, including with experts such as Professor Carola Griehl from Anhalt University of Applied Sciences and Jörg Ullmann from the Klötze algae farm, these perspectives and the challenges of the still young economic sector were examined in detail.
Highlights of the event
In addition to specialist lectures, there were also culinary highlights: the world's first IHK-certified algae sommeliers presented innovative algae products to try - from meals to cosmetic products. The intensive exchange with leading players in the industry showed how great the enthusiasm is for the diverse applications of algae and what steps are necessary to use this resource even more efficiently.
Looking into the future
Blue-green algae biotechnology is a key technology in the “blue bioeconomy”. It offers solutions to address global crises such as climate change, resource scarcity and food security. As part of the food4future project, we are researching how algae can sustainably change the future of nutrition. Dr. Anna Fricke's participation in the algae regulars' table was an inspiring insight into the possibilities and enthusiasm that is driving this future industry forward.
