Dr. Anna Fricke: Macroalgae expertise for the BVL's substance list working group

On December 11, 2024, the third meeting of the sub-working group (UAG) Algae List of the WG Substance List of the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) took place.

The discussion focused on current scientific and regulatory issues relating to the use of macroalgae as food. With her many years of research into macroalgae and their use in nutrition, Dr. Fricke is helping to scientifically support the use of this valuable resource and make it safe for future use. We are delighted that Dr. Anna Fricke, scientist at the Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ), is now an official member of the UAG Algae List! Her expertise will contribute to the scientific evaluation of macroalgae with regard to their safety, novelty and sustainable use in food. The Substance List Working Group is an expert committee that carries out regular reviews and updates of substance lists with the involvement of federal authorities (BVL, BfR, BfArM) and external experts.
