On June 24 and 25, 2025, the INUGA Conference of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Home Affairs (BMLEH) took place in Berlin. Under the guiding theme of “Urban Horticulture - Present and Future”, experts from politics, science and practice discussed the potential of urban food systems for sustainable urban development.

food4future was represented by Prof. Dr. Monika Schreiner from the Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ), who took part in the panel discussion of Session 1 "Promoting - Researching - Changing. How urban horticulture offers solutions".

Together with Eva Kähler-Theuerkauf (Zentralverband Gartenbau - ZVG), Prof. Dr. Andreas Ulbrich (Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences) and Dr. Stephan Anders (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen - DGNB e. V.), she discussed innovative solutions for sustainable urban nutrition under the moderation of Dr. Axel Paulsch and Johannes Gorges.

“More and more people are living in cities - that's why we need sustainable, diverse and technological solutions for urban food production.”
- Prof. Dr. Monika Schreiner

This statement illustrates the relevance of the food4future project in the context of urban food security. The aim of the project is to research alternative and forward-looking approaches to food production in urban areas. These includes:
