Last weekend, the town of Wildau once again became the focus of regional innovation: Wildau University of Applied Sciences, the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Research IAP and the Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ) jointly presented exciting research projects at the lifestyle trade fair - including the food4future project - food of the future.

The focus of the stand was on forward-looking, sustainable solutions for the food of tomorrow. A futuristic “lightsaber” - a technological innovation for growing algae in urban areas - attracted particular attention. The mayor of Wildau, Frank Nerlich, was also impressed and took the opportunity to pay a personal visit.

Visitors were not only able to gain insights into current research work, but also taste algae cookies - a culinary highlight with a surprise effect. The direct exchange with students and researchers was received with great interest and met with a consistently positive response.
The presence of the food4future team on site was significantly enriched by the professional support of Prof. Christian Dreyer and Dr. Anna Fricke. The positive response to the trade fair appearance underlines the high level of commitment and expertise of the entire project team.

Such events illustrate the importance of dialog between science and society - and the potential that research holds for a sustainable future.
